Pow Wow Dancer

April 2004

I tried drawing “Pow Wow Dancer” using colored charcoal as a medium, but not all portraits can be drawn using charcoal, so I turned to Acrylic in order to achieve the detail and vibrancy that was at the heart of the subject. The detail, especially the beadwork on his headband, required the diversity from acrylics. Details are very important to all realistic created images. I took my time as I carefully used a form of ‘pointillism’ to paint portions of this piece. It took 4 different forms of painting style to achieve that ‘realistic’ look.
